The Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop (RPTW) named after Rafi Peer, Pakistan’s foremost modern dramatist was launched in 1974. It is a non-government organization that promotes the arts, focuses on culture and aims to educate and entertain through its activities.

Rafi Peerzada

Born on 21st March, 1898, Rafi Peer was the architect of the subcontinent’s modern drama tradition. This was a period of political awakening for the Muslims of the subcontinent. Rafi Peer’s father, Pir Taj-ud-Din, a respected lawyer in the High Court, was one of the movement’s leading intellectuals.

Faizaan Peerzada is the COO of the Rafi Peer theatre Workshop and President of international Festivals Division and UNIMA Pakistan. Having a rich experience in organizing cross cultural events Faizaan Peerzada has organized over a thousand different programs for children and adults all over the country.

Our Festivals

The International Festivals organised by the Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop has been on a totally different scale. These have been very large festivals by any standard, and the sheer ingenuity of the organisers in managing to hold all the performances at one venue – the Alhamra Cultural Complex Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, has been commendable.

Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop is the oldest and largest puppet company in Pakistan. In 1992 Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop organized a temporary puppet exhibition as part of the celebrations for the first International Puppet Festival This exhibition turned out to be an unprecedented success and helped Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop conceive the idea of a puppet museum.

The Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop also has at hand the most exciting and visually dynamic archive material of all our festivals and puppet productions available exclusively from our memorable past festivals from 1992 to 2020. In this footage the audience can witness a series of projects and video clips which will show them the birth of fusion projects of music in Pakistan, dynamic and diverse theatre plays, several forms of dance and puppetry from around the world brought to the audience of Pakistan.
